Great for those like me who like to have a disk in case your computer poops out.
When my long-time tax accountant retired several years ago, he recommended tax act as his replacement. I bought the downloadable version for privacy’s sake. It was an outstanding value back then. The ‘deluxe’ version did everything i needed and cost $10 for federal and $10 for each state. Over the years the price crept up, but it stayed fairly reasonable — until 2015. For 2015, tax act’s price went up — way up. However, i found an online coupon that brought the cost down to a fairly reasonable $39 for federal and two states. Alas, in the 2016 tax year, the comparable tax act discount code was good only for online use. You don’t want to type your most personal financial data into someone else’s computer?. For federal and 2 states, the total slam for me would have been $113. Heck, at that price level, i might as well add some more cash and start a relationship with a new tax accountant. One other cost factor: as far as i can tell, you can buy tax act only from tax act. I’ve found no other stores or online retailers that offer it.

We’ve been using this software for years; and it has changed over the years, but it never fails to disappoint. No audits from the irs, thank goodness, and because of the quality of the program, i’d say that is probably a good reason for that. We don’t have complicated taxes, but this makes everything so easy to do. We tried going to a different software for 1 or 2 years, was totally disappointed and went back to h&r software. Will never use anything different as long as they keep up the good job.
This program has the basic schedule c for self employed. My wife breezed through the tax return. I’ve done it all previous years. . And compared with filling out the actual tax forms the program was easier and far more accurate. And worth the purchase price of software. My only complaint is saving copies to computer. Which is clumsy for people who review their tax returns frequently. Pdf format does not break down evenly 1 page to 1 page. The ‘save’ feature should also offer to redact taxpayer numbers etc. The program does not save in. Jpg or picture format so it’s easy to click through schedule cs from several years and compare office expense for example.
Very easy to use and priced reasonably. This is only my 2nd time using it as i used turbo tax for over 15 yrs until they got to damn greedy for their own good. So far i am happy with h&r block.
H&R Block Tax Software Premium 2016 + Refund Bonus Offer PC/Mac Disc [Old Version] : Wonderful software for typical tax filers with a home mortgage, a few investments, and a small business. Con: it is so hard to predict when the sales will be and how far the product will be discounted. Got burned again by purchasing too early (loss 1 star).
